Hammer Auctions, the natural complement to Galerie Walu
For decades, passionate collectors have built up impressive collections with enthusiasm, curiosity, and a spirit of discovery. Now, many of these collections are reaching a turning point: people are moving, reorganizing their lives, or their descendants would rather collect themselves than take over a ready-made collection.
Consequently, more and more objects are finding their way to Galerie Walu. However, we cannot — and do not want to — acquire everything. As the supply has grown, so has the task of making cultural assets accessible professionally, transparently and internationally.
Following three auctions independently (2002) and over twenty auctions as an external expert at Koller Auctions in Zurich (2003–2014), Hammer Auctions was established in 2016 as a natural progression for Galerie Walu.
Hammer Auctions is the only auction house in Switzerland specializing in non-European art. In 2026, we will celebrate our 10th anniversary. With an average of two auctions per month, Hammer Auctions is also one of the world’s most active auction houses when it comes to tribal art, ancient cultures, and the dissolution of entire collections.
